
They prove all those wrong who claim that expressionist painting has lost its once innovative and provocative character. Far from it! This wild art is consistently the sharpest affront to the established cultural scene with its self-indulgent philistinism. A slap in the face for the highly decorated pretentiousness of every Biennale or Documenta, where, like everywhere else, only marketable goods are exhibited, leaving nothing but intellectual apathy and deathly boredom.
He is self-taught. It should come as no surprise that it is often autodidacts who have escaped the conditioning of institutionalized art. It's the loners, who have grown weary of seeing art as a synonym for earning a living, whose works are still able to fascinate at all. Only at a distance from the cultural industry with all its mediocrity is creative work still possible.
Or do people seriously believe that a vain fool, who as a professional artist is only interested in marketing his pretty clutter, could produce anything of value? He would certainly consider Mierzicki's paintings to be barbaric, and he would be right to do so. These paintings don't care what's "trendy" at the moment; they don't give a damn about very specific ideas of the function and beauty of art, nor those of enjoyment and cultural consumption.
